Volunteering for Media Democracy Days

Volunteering for Media Democracy Days
By: Lindsay Stroud
The 13th annual Media Democracy Days conference is once again coming to Vancouver on November 8th and 9th in partnership with Simon Fraser University’s School of Communication, OpenMedia.ca, and the Vancouver Public Library. Since 2001, the conference’s main focus has been to promote the growth of “alternative, independent and, democratic media in Canada” and to make the public aware of the convergence of media and telecommunication companies and current issues and changes relating to media policy. Simply put: a fair, equal, and democratic media network for all Canadians. Their mission statement is simple: ‘Know the media, Be the media, Change the media.’ If you’d like more information, go to http://mediademocracydays2013.ca. In addition, there are opportunities to volunteer and help out with Media Democracy Days, including community outreach and working with the public and opportunities for volunteer photographers and videographers.
Although, the volunteer submission deadline has past, you can email mediadem@sfu.ca to see if positions are still available.
