On February 4th the Mechatronic Systems Engineering Student Society (MSESS) held its first annual Mechatronic Systems Engineering Career Expo. Throughout the daylong networking event, students from Mechatronics and other SFU Surrey programs met with representatives from several high-tech companies, including APEGBC, Samsung, SNC-Lavalin, Andritz Automation, BC Hydro and Powertech – who also sponsored the event.
Companies set up exhibition booths in the Mezzanine at the SFU’s state-of-the-art Surrey campus, to showcase their cutting-edge technology and engage with students from the School of Computing Science’s Software Systems program, the School of Interactive Arts and Technology, and the Beedie School of Business. BC Hydro is also set to hold a more in-depth information session following the career expo.
This was a great occasion for students to discover various Co-op and career opportunities, gain networking experience and create connections with prospective employers. Members of the MSESS, which currently represents over 500 students were on hand to mingle and facilitate interaction with industry representatives.

On February 6th the SFU Engineering Science Student Society (ESSS) and Computing Science Student Society (CSSS) held the 21st annual Opportunities Fair. During the daylong networking event, students in engineering and computing science met with representatives from over 20 high-tech companies.
Industry members set up exhibition booths in the Applied Science Building at SFU Burnaby campus, to showcase their companies’ cutting-edge technology and recruit some of Canada’s brightest minds. Several companies also held 45-minute information sessions, providing a more in-depth description of their corporations and technologies, and answering questions.
This was a great occasion for students to discover local and international businesses, and to create connections with prospective employers. Uwe Glässer, Applied Sciences Associate Dean, represented the Faculty and mingled with students, company representatives and OpFair’s coordinators throughout the event.
Prior to the career fair, SFU Work Integrated Learning (WIL) provided students with resume review assistance, tips on appropriate attire, as well as advice on how to approach prospective employers and follow up with them after the fair.
