Volunteer with SFU Public Square's 2014 Community Summit!

Volunteer with SFU Public Square's 2014 Community Summit!
By: Jordana Fridman
SFU Public Square assembles the hearts, minds, and talents of diverse communities to promote inclusive, intelligent, and inspiring dialogue. The SFU Public Square hosts our annual Community Summit to investigate—and recommend practical solutions to—pressing issues in BC and Canada.
The 2014 Summit – “Innovation, The Shock of the Possible” runs October 19th-24th and we need your help to kick it off! We’ll ask what innovation means for some of the most important social, environmental and economic issues facing communities in BC, Canada, and beyond.
RISE: an ideas competition addressing sea level rise: Exhibition Day – October 19th at SFU’s Segal Building
Recent reports predict the ocean that surrounds our Metro Vancouver communities will rise by 1metre by 2100, putting housing, transportation and ecosystems at major risk while causing significant economic losses. SFU Public Square has launched an open ideas competition to address sea level rise in Metro Vancouver. RISE will provide the platform for people in Metro Vancouver communities to develop innovative ideas that ensure we adapt and thrive – faster than the waters that surround us.
On October 19th our teams come together to show off their great ideas to the public, and pitch to our judging panel. Be a part of the excitement surrounding this competition with $75,000 in prize money.
Young Innovators Crawl: October 19th featuring stops in Strathcona, Mount Pleasant, The Flats, Gastown, Chinatown, Yaletown and Railtown.
The Young Innovators Crawl is your chance to meet inspiring future leaders from the worlds of design, technology, sustainability, arts and culture, and social innovation. Explore the studios and workspaces of an amazing line up of innovators and enjoy live demonstrations, informal talks, pop-up exhibitions, dialogue sessions, and more. Take a sneak peak and be inspired as we showcase Vancouver’s brightest and best.
Get involved! Meet and network with our RISE competition and YOUNG INNOVATOR CRAWL participants, as well as Summit partners and sponsors:
- Vancouver Foundation
- Vancity
- Vancouver Sun
- City of Vancouver
- Real Estate Foundation
- Vancouver Economic Commission
- Carbon Talks
- Radius
Each event will have a variety of volunteer roles for you to gain experience and build upon your skillset.
