IATSU's Design for Donations

IATSU's Design for Donations
By: Nicola Sznajder
Last year, I had the pleasure of working with Design for Donations, a program under the Interactive Arts and Technology Student Union (IATSU) based on SFU Surrey Campus. Their mission is to help the less fortunate all over Metro Vancouver through the exchange of design for donations. The type of work available ranges from logo design to video animation, so there is something for everyone. Simply volunteer for the job of your choice (mentors are available), design your product, and get a donation for a charity.
I created SIAT’s Christmas cards which was sent out to students, faculty, and industry professionals. I got to work with some amazing people, use my skill set, gain experience and exposure, and earn donations for a charity of my choice (Surrey Women’s Shelter for me). As the result of this experience, I received a paid contract with SIAT for a 300 paged document two months later.
I highly recommend them to link you up with a client and to get some design work for your portfolio.
