Mechatronics Co-op Alumni Profile: Chris Stewart
Mechatronics Co-op Alumni Profile: Chris Stewart
Chris Stewart is a junior engineer at Brock Solutions. He works in the development of control systems for airport baggage handling systems and has been working with Brock since November 2011.
MECHATRONICS CO-OP PROFILES
Prior to convocation, Chris did a co-op at Green Roads Recycling. At Green Roads Chris helped develop a multi-purpose road paving device. The device was designed to heat up the old road, tear it up and finally use the recycled pavement for a new road. After his co-op job, Stewart decided to include the construction of this device as his 4th year capstone project. Working toward creating an environmentally friendly world is part of Stewart’s personal mandate.
Stewart is quite involved with the SFU community throughout his undergraduate degree and present. He is still a member of the SFU rowing team. Chris believes it is important to be involved with community while spending time with the academics.
Chris stated that the MSE program touches on many disciplines of engineering. The MSE program allows students to work on a variety of different engineering tasks with no problem. “Figure out what you want to do early in MSE, and if you would rather focus on one area exclusively focus all your energy in that engineering discipline, it may be mechanical, software or electrical if you like it all go into control systems and stay in mainstream MSE.”
As for his future goals, Chris likes working for Brock Solutions because he has a strong drive for the manufacturing industry. Brock is an international company and Chris Stewart likes that he is a part of the great work they do. There is a lot of international travel involved with Brock Solutions, which Stewart favours. Snehdeep Samra is another MSE alumni that is working along side Chris at Brock Solutions. By taking on two great MSE graduates, Brock Solutions seems to favour the hard work SFU MSE students bring to the company.
