Always on, Always Connected: Working at Research in Motion
Always on, Always Connected: Working at Research in Motion
By: Jenny Xu | RIM Campus Ambassador – Spring/Summer 2009
Research In Motion (RIM), the company that brings us the BlackBerry devices, is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of innovative wireless solutions for the worldwide mobile communications market. Founded in 1984, based in Waterloo, Ontario,RIM now has offices in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.
RIM is the largest private sector co-op and intern student employer and offers 500 opportunities for students from across Canada every four months. There are positions available every term, open to students in many disciplines – Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Humanities, Arts, Mathematics, Social Science and more. There are three types of placements available for students – New Graduate (For New Graduates) positions, Co-op terms (4 to 8 months) and Internship (12 to 16 months) placements.
Before returning to school to finish my degree, I completed two co-op terms with RIM as a specialist working with the Marketing Intelligence team. Throughout the eight-month work term, I gained lots of experience in data analysis, marketing research and report building. I analyzed valuable marketing data, learned to use different software programs, created executive-level reports, worked with many experienced analysts and so much more. RIM also holds internal career events each term for students who are interested to come back for another work term.
Although most of the work opportunities are located at Waterloo headquarters, RIM covers relocation expenses, including return airfare (with a third piece of luggage), limo pickups and hotel accommodations – which is very useful these days with all the travel restrictions. Life in Waterloo can also be very exciting, as it is a student town with two large universities. RIM also provides the Co-op Social Committee that arranges various events throughout the semesters to help co-op students meet each other.
So are you looking for a career that is inspiring, challenging and deeply rewarding? VisitRIM's Careers Page and learn more about careers at RIM. Join the team that celebrates success, offers dynamic and limitless career opportunities, and remains competitive and committed to their corporate culture.
If you can see yourself as part of an organization on the cutting edge of wireless innovation, and if you thrive on excellence and inspired success, then you belong at RIM.
