Thank You from the Online Learning Community

The Online Learning Community would not be where it is today without the support and knowledge contributions from volunteers, dedicated Work Integrated Learning Staff and SFU students. As we wrap up 2008, we would like to extend a special thank you to everyone, and highlight some of our outstanding 2008 Community builders.

2008 Student Contributors

One of the most valuable aspects of the Online Learning Community is that through knowledge sharing by students, for students, we all learn and grow. Some of our outstanding student staff and volunteer contributors this year include:

David Barter
Involved in all aspects of WIL's transition to Symplicity, SIAT Co-op student David Barter was responsible for posting the Symplicity FAQs and the Symplicity Tips in the OLC Discussion Forums.

Adam Brayford
In 2008, Communication Co-p student Adam Brayford brought, amongst other talents, his unique journalistic sensibility to the OLC by contributing countless articles throughout the year. Adam's work can be seen and read in the OLC's Article Archive.

Melanie Chang
Business Co-op and OLC work study student Melanie Chang was responsible for researching and conducting interviews for an upcoming series called "What Can I Do With My Degree In..."

Amanda Chen
Communication Co-op student Amanda Chen contributed to the OLC through her two roles at WIL. Firstly, with Volunteer Services in her writing for the ventureVolunteer eNewsletter and secondly through her role with the International Co-op office and her contributions to the "Destinations" series and other articles for the OLC.

Grace Chiu
A volunteer writer for the OLC (and intended Communication Co-op student), Grace Chiu contributed her "Working with Grace" series, which tackled some of the most pressing topics for students in search of work.

Anu Chouhan
SIAT Co-op student Anu Chouhan contributed a variety of amazing design work and some highly read articles to the OLC. Two of Anu's most-read articles are "Post-Graduation Work Permit Program: What You Need to Know" and "The Key to a Great Cover Letter: Deconstructing the Job Description".

Jessica Doherty
As the Volunteer & Service Learning Assistant, Communication Co-op student Jessica Doherty contributed to the OLC through her writing in the ventureVolunteer eNewsletter from September 2008 onwards and through her creative banner and article image designs for the OLC.

Francisco Gallegos
As the Volunteer & Service Learning Assistant for the Spring 2008 semester, Political Science/Communication Co-op student Francisco Gallegos contributed to the OLC through his "Diary of a Volunteer" series.

Kerri Jang
Kinesiology Co-op student Kerri Jang wowed us with her accounts of working and living in Moldova for an international Co-op work term. You can read about Kerri's experiences and see her photos in her five-part "Moldovan Memories" series.

Meghan Jones
International Studies and OLC work study student Meghan Jones covered a variety of WIL events and conducted interviews with some outstanding SFU alumni. You can read her work in the Article Archive section. Her work will also be featured in the upcoming "What Can I Do With My Degree In..." series.

Communication Co-op student Kelsey Newsham took over the reins as OLC Host for the fall 2008 semester. Between contributing design work, writing, responding to queries and generally keeping things interesting on the OLC, Kelsey also supports the contests run through the OLC, such as the "So You Think You Can Resume Contest" and the "2008 WIL Photo Contest".

Kali Penney
Health Sciences Co-op Student Kali Penney traveled to Kolkata, India this past semester for an international co-op work term. Kali shares her challenges and successes along with some amazing photos in her 4-part "Ode to the City of Joy" series.

Our thanks also go out to all the students who participated in an interview with one of the OLC writers, all students who added their profile to the OLC and sent us their ideas, questions and feedback. The OLC is your space so we encourage you to tell us how to make it better!
