What is Open House?
Simon Fraser University’s Open House 2012 takes place on Saturday, May 26th starting at 11am. Enjoy an exciting day packed with hundreds of intriguing things to see and do. Engaging activities will include entertainers, interesting exhibits and many interactive presentations by faculties, programs and departments.
This free event has lots to do for all ages, rain or shine, and will interest everyone by providing you with an informative and unforgettable experience.
You’re invited to explore our campus facilities, see how we engage in the community, speak with award-winning teachers and world-renowned researchers, and enjoy performances by entertainers and members of SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts.
Faculty, staff and students from all SFU campuses (Vancouver, Surrey and Burnaby) will participate in this grand event. We hope to leave you with a sense of the many fascinating and intriguing opportunities at SFU. You can chat with SFU representatives including student, faculty members, staff and alumni. Other participating community groups and organizations including our commercial and residential neighbours at UniverCity will be present.
When and Where is Open House?
Open House is held at SFU’s Burnaby Campus on Saturday, May 26, 2012 from 11:00 am to 4:00pm.
Our address is 8888 University Drive, Burnaby, BC, Canada. This event will occur rain or shine.
How Do I Get There?
The 2012 Open House is intended to be a sustainable event and extra Translink buses will operate from the Production Way/University Skytrain station. Guests are encouraged to use public transit.
Parking is free at all campus parking lots. We recommend parking in Lot B, C or G. Please see Map and Directions page for detailed map.
How close is this event and will I have to walk far?
Parking lots and bus terminals are located within a short walk of the Open House. The Open House covers a lot of ground and it is recommended that you wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.
Do I need to pre-register to attend this event?
No, guests are not required to register. You’re welcome to bring friends and family of all ages to discover SFU.
Do I have to check-in when I arrive?
No. Student volunteers will guide you and provide a free program outlining the many things to see and do.
Do I have to register for any individual events or activities throughout the day?
All events are open and no registration is required.
Many activities are located in or near major corridors and will be easily accessible. Some special presentations are very popular (e.g., Chemistry’s Stinks and Bangs) and seating will be limited. To secure seats for you and your friends and family, please plan to arrive a bit early. We will attempt to provide more than one offering for events we know will be very popular.
Is this event only for adults or can I bring along my children?
Everyone is welcome to attend and certain events will be of particular interest to children. The activities and interactive exhibits will ensure an unforgettable experience for you and your family.
What will it “look like”?
You will discover hundreds of exciting activities along our Discovery Trail. Demonstrations and performances will be of interest to all ages. Convocation mall will be hosting a carnival with games, music and other fun activities.
Will there be food and refreshments?
There will be a variety of food options at the event.
Is there an admission fee?
Open House is free.
Do I need to bring anything?
Bring your sense of curiosity and adventure. Almost all events are scheduled indoors, but some will be outdoors, so dress appropriately for whatever the weather offers.
Do I need to be a member of the SFU community?
No. This event is open for the public.
I am not able to attend this event. Can I come to campus another time for a campus tour?
