Spring 2013 Internal Deadlines

Internal SFU Deadlines for faculty members applying to CIHR, SSHRC & NSERC (“Tri-Agencies”)

The information below refers to a number of external programmes which require the University’s electronic submission (“eSUB”) of on-line applications to the external funding agencies. Internal SFU deadlines are established by the Office of Research Services (“ORS”) and precede the external funding agency’s deadlines. SFU internal deadlines are nonnegotiable due to: volume of applications + overlapping external deadline dates + 3 eSUB platforms. Your co-operation is greatly appreciated!

This information is subject to change; changes are communicated electronically with all mailing list members. (See E-mail Lists page.)

Note:   When a funding agency deadline falls on the weekend, the next business day becomes the funding agency’s deadline date.

The "SFU SIG Sheet"

At the time of application, all applications must be approved by ORS using an SFU Research Funding Application Signature Sheet (“SFU SIG Sheet”) prior to their submission. Applicants are strongly advised to allow sufficient lead time for the proper consideration of the application at each level.

SFU SIG Sheets are required from all SFU co‐applicants (“co‐PIs”) from different faculties/departments/schools than the home department/school of the SFU applicant. These additional SFU SIG Sheets normally accompany the SFU applicant’s SIG Sheet; all documents are emailed to ors@sfu.ca. SFU Adjunct Professors must contact Nancy McNeil (mcneil@sfu.ca) in advance of the internal SFU deadline about their plan to apply for a grant.

Letters of Support

SFU applications which require a letter of support from the VP Research (“VPR”) should make arrangements through the VPRs office (vprsec@sfu.ca) well in advance of agency deadlines.

Tri-Agency Deadlines + The E-submission Process

The Tri‐Agency deadlines posted here require the University (i.e. ORS) to complete the eSubmission of all on‐line applications in advance of 5 pm Pacific Time (“PT”).

The on‐line application process requires the applicant to choose “submit” on the on‐line application in order for Nancy McNeil, Research Grants Manager and Sue Hampton, Research Grants Coordinator to review the application with regards to compliance with SFU’s Research policies and funding agency requirements. Problematic applications are “electronically returned” (when time permits) to the applicant for revision. Revised applications are “submitted” (again, by the applicant) for ORS’ final review prior to the final esubmission by ORS on behalf of the University to the funding agency. The funding agency sends an automatic reply to the applicant, confirming their receipt of the on‐line application.
