Resources for Researchers

Office of Research Services staff, in conjunction with the Grants Facilitators, periodically present grant writing workshops and host funding sponsor visits. Such events will be announced via the ORS mail lists and recorded on this web page.

New faculty members will find the Welcome to New Faculty Members and the "New Faculty Orientation, 2010" of particular interest.

Fall 2011 Application deadline date information is available with regards to the Office of Research Services (ORS) 'internal' deadline dates and the CIHR's, NSERC's and SSHRC's 'external' deadline dates.

Research Matters is a newsletter published three times a year by the Vice President Research. In it, ORS publishes articles of general interest on varied topics pertaining to research administration.

Writing successful grant applications is everyone's goal. To assist applicants, Research Grant Facilitators, who assist SFU researchers in obtaining research funding, have extensive knowledge concerning funding sources and successful grant writing skills. Tips for preparing grant applications are available from many sources.

Specific minima or maxima pertaining to stipends paid from grants is no longer in effect. Questions regarding appropriate research assistant and post doc salary rates should be directed to one's department, school or faculty. Research assistant hourly rates funded by SFU/SSHRC Small Grants can be found under "Salaries" (Guidelines page 3).

The Major Projects Office supports the development of proposals for submission to major grant competitions at the provincial, national and international levels. The MPO will provide assistance with facilitating the establishment of collaborative and multidisciplinary teams.

The SFU Research Interests Database provides descriptions of faculty members' areas of research expertise, contact information and links to individual home pages where available.
