  • Prerequisites:

    BC Pre-Calculus 12 (or equivalent) or MATH 100 (may be taken concurrently). BC Physics 11 (or equivalent) is recommended. Students who have obtained a grade of C+ or better in BC high school Physics 12 (or its equivalent) or who have taken any further physics course normally may not take PHYS 100 for credit.

Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

A course for students with relatively weak backgrounds in physics. Kinematics and dynamics; waves; optics; electricity and magnetism. Tutorials will be held in the open workshop format, i.e. unstructured periods each week when teaching assistants are available to answer questions and help with problem assignments.

2.  Motion along a straight line            
3.  Newton’s law of motion            
4.  Forces and motion in two and three dimensions            
5.  Motion at the earth’s surface            
6.  Kinetic and potential energy            
7.  Gravitational force            
8.  Collisions: the transfer of momentum and kinetic energy            
9.  Electric charge and potential difference          
10.  Elementary charge; ions and electrons          
11.  Light propagation, reflection, and refraction

Grading

NOTES:

Your final grade will be determined by one of the schemes below. I will automatically use the scheme that gives you the higher grade.

Course fees: A Lab Fee of $10.00 is applicable.
