Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Continues and expands on the work undertaken in Acting III. Students with credit for FPA 351 may not take this course for further credit.

COURSE DETAILS:

The final semester of studio acting brings all previous studio work into application in a collaborative process between this class and filmmaking students from CA 334. Students in this class will continue to explore and employ acting and performance techniques through scenes from a major 20th Century playwright, in addition to creating and developing original material. Through collaborative exercises with the filmmaking students, they will also develop an understanding of how various performance styles, and their own created material, translate to various kinds of filmed media. Class will include time for creating, developing, and critiquing their own and others’ performance work, as well as viewing and analyzing preexisting film samples as a critical contemporary manifestation of the actor’s craft.   Working in various and evolving collaborative formations students will create a series of projects with different creative constraints, leading to a final project/presentation.

Grading

  • Assignments and scene work, some to be completed outside class hours. Work will be graded on both quality and evidence of student's growth and progress over the semester. 50%
  • Participation in discussion, critique and analysis of in-class work, punctuality, attitude, and support of the ensemble. 30%
  • Final project and presentation. 20%

Registrar Notes:

SFU’s Academic Integrity web site http://students.sfu.ca/academicintegrity.html is filled with information on what is meant by academic dishonesty, where you can find resources to help with your studies and the consequences of cheating.  Check out the site for more information and videos that help explain the issues in plain English.

Each student is responsible for his or her conduct as it affects the University community.  Academic dishonesty, in whatever form, is ultimately destructive of the values of the University. Furthermore, it is unfair and discouraging to the majority of students who pursue their studies honestly. Scholarly integrity is required of all members of the University. http://www.sfu.ca/policies/gazette/student/s10-01.html
