Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Analysis and design of data structures for lists, sets, trees, dictionaries, and priority queues. A selection of topics chosen from sorting, memory management, graphs and graph algorithms.

COURSE DETAILS:

The objective of this course is to introduce concepts and problem-solving techniques that are used in the design and analysis of efficient algorithms. This is done by studying various algorithms and data structures.

Topics

  • Basic algorithm analysis
  • Simple data structures ((lists, arrays, stacks, queues, heaps)
  • Graph traversal algorithms (Breadth First Search, Depth First Search)
  • Greedy algorithms (Dijkstra's algorithm, Prim's algorithm, Kruskal's algorithm)
  • Divide and conquer algorithms
  • Recurrence relations
  • Dynamic programming
  • Applications
  • Network flow (if time permits)

Grading

NOTES:

The course has a final examination (worth 40% of the total grade). There will be four homework assignments which won't be collected and graded. Instead, there will be four 50-min quizzes (based on these assignments) in class (worth 15% each).
