Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Deals with a variety of approaches, teaching strategies and curricula, for teaching French as a second language in elementary and secondary schools. Students with credit for EDUC 480W may not take this course for further credit.

COURSE DETAILS:

Note: For Summer 2019, EDUC 480 (Secondary) is a combined section class with EDUC 481 (Designs for Learning: French Immersion Programs and Francophone Schools (Secondary)).  This course is taught in French.


Le cours vise, par le biais de l’examen critique de l’enseignement dit du « français de base » au niveau secondaire (Core French (8- 12)), à poser et établir des repères à la fois historiques, théoriques, linguistiques et didactiques de l’enseignement des langues secondes. Par le biais d’activités de classe, ainsi que de lectures retraçant l’évolution de la recherche dans le champ et des pratiques enseignantes, mais également en prenant appui sur l’expérience des étudiants, le cours souhaite revenir de façon critique sur les différentes théories qui sous-tendent l’enseignement/ apprentissage des langues et permettre ainsi un retour sur les stratégies d’enseignement/apprentissage qui peuvent être appliquées à l’enseignement du français langue seconde.

COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:

  • Develop a better understanding of the historical and local context, the fundamentals and approaches in which FSL teaching in British Columbia takes place;
  • Examine theories and methodologies related to teaching and learning a second language (e.g. communicative and experiential approach);
  • Interact with the Core French curriculum to integrate its content into lesson plans and / or units;
  • Explore the available resources and built a resource directory;
  • Get acquainted with elements of different Francophone cultures.

  • Évaluation de documents authentiques et plan de leçon 30%
  • Plan d’unité : approche actionnelle (partenaire) 35%
  • Pour ceux qui vont à Explore:
  • Blogue et réflexion sur ses experiences d’apprentissage 35%

NOTES:

*Il est possible que ces tâches soient modifiées. La liste des travaux à remettre sera présentée en détails lors de la première session de cours.

The instructor reserves the right to adapt the work to the needs of the students. The detailed description of the work and the evaluation criteria will be presented in class during the first session.

A NOTER: Il n’y a pas d’examen final dans ce cours.
