Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

Focuses on teaching elementary school mathematics. Students explore mathematical learning, their own mathematical thinking, and curriculum; and plan mathematical instruction within a consistent framework using appropriate instructional materials and methods. Quantitative.

COURSE DETAILS:

This course will be delivered remotely with weekly 1-hour video conferencing on Wednesdays between 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM (TBA) using software available within Canvas.


This course is designed for prospective and practicing elementary school teachers to engage with and explore the fundamentals of both teaching and learning in relation to mathematics.

Through engagement with selected readings, online discussion (through Canvas posts and some videoconferencing), students will explore and develop their own beliefs and values about teaching mathematics.

COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:

Upon completion of the course, it is hoped that participants will feel more at ease with the subject of mathematics, will be able to utilize the prescribed BC mathematics curriculum with confidence, and gain a practical sense of how it unfolds in the classroom.
