Chemistry 12 with a minimum grade of C, or CHEM 109 or CHEM 111 with a minimum grade of C-. Corequisite: CHEM 120.

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:
Experiments in atomic and molecular structure, chemical bonding and reactivity, thermochemistry, gases, liquids, solids and solutions. This course has the same laboratory component as CHEM 121. Students with credit for CHEM 121 may not take this course for further credit. Quantitative/Breadth-Science.

Experiments in atomic and molecular structure, chemical bonding and reactivity, thermochemistry, gases, liquids, solids and solutions.
Exp. 1 - Introduction: Chemical Reactions and Equations I
Exp. 2 - Chemical Reactions and Equations II: Sequence of Copper Reactions
Exp. 3 - Redox Titrations: Analysis of Commercial Bleach
Exp. 4 - The Molar Volume of a Gas
Exp. 5 - Thermochemistry: Use of Hess' Law
Exp. 6 - Evaporation and Vapour Pressure
Exp. 7 - Colligative Properties: Freezing Point Depression
Grading
- Lab Reports and/or Labs 85%
- LON-CAPA Pre-Lab Homework 15%
NOTES:
Grading Notes: Missing more than one lab report will result in an incomplete grade.
REQUIREMENTS:
Attendance of In-Person Laboratory Sessions: It is mandatory for students to attend all in-person laboratory sessions. If you are unable to attend an in-person laboratory session due to illness, please contact your instructor as soon as possible to discuss alternative arrangements.

TEACHING AT SFU IN FALL 2021
Teaching at SFU in fall 2021 will involve primarily in-person instruction, with approximately 70 to 80 per cent of classes in person/on campus, with safety plans in place. Whether your course will be in-person or through remote methods will be clearly identified in the schedule of classes. You will also know at enrollment whether remote course components will be “live” (synchronous) or at your own pace (asynchronous).
