Introduction to Psychology I (3)

Acquaints the student with the major issues in contemporary psychology and considers the historical antecedents. Special attention is given to questions of methodology and research design in psychology. Topics in physiological psychology, perception, learning and motivation are considered. Breadth-Social Sciences.

Special attention is given to questions of methodology and research design in psychology. Topics in physiological psychology, sensation and perception, learning, consciousness, memory, and emotion/motivation are considered.
This course will be taught in-person.
COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:
- Familiarize students with research methods used in the field of psychology
- Introduction and practice of APA formatting guidelines.
- Overview of foundational theoretical perspectives
- Application of concepts via assignments
- 4 exams (2 chapters per exam, 15% each) 60%
- 4 assignments (8.5% per assignment) 34%
- Research Participation 6%
- Exams are multiple-choice.
- 2 assignments are class-based and two assignments are completed online
- All assignment are graded on an individual basis.
- An iclicker is NOT required for this course
- Office Hours: Mondays 1:30-2:20 pm or by appointment
In addition to the other course requirements listed on the syllabus, each student in Psychology 100, 102 & 201 is required to complete three hours of research participation.

Criteria for the determination of letter grades in this course will be presented during the first week of lectures. This course may be counted towards a certificate in liberal arts.
