Description
CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:
Will continue the work of the 200-level courses with emphasis on the cultural aspects of Italian life. How does one live in Italy today? What are the cultural differences between the various regions? Fluency in language use, both oral and written, will be enhanced.
COURSE DETAILS:
ITAL 300 will be focusing on applying the language and the grammatical/oral competency learnt at the intermediary level to literary pieces, poetry, articles and advertising. We will also explore the language of architecture, food industry and new cultural products and topics selected for this Course.
Class discussions, group work, presentations, essay writing will enhance and amplify the use of the vocabulary and increase both the oral and written communicative skills of the student. The Course will be conducted in Italian and the material used, supported by corresponding audio-visual material, will also allow the students to be immersed in the Italian culture.
COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:
- To improve and expand the general knowledge about Italian Culture, make the students familiar with Italian Literature, political system, contemporary history and economy.
- At the end of this course the students will be able to understand spoken Italian easily, to converse about a great variety of topics and to communicate in written Italian at an advanced level.

NOTES:
PLEASE NOTE: ITAL 300 is designed for students who have previously completed ITAL 210 or an equivalent fourth-semester course in Italian language at a different institution. Students who have had previous training in Italian or who are not sure about their language level and suitability for this course should consult with the instructor regarding placement at the appropriate level: vvintila@sfu.ca
