CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

A broad survey of human cultural development from the late Palaeolithic/PalaeoIndian periods (ca 40,000 BP) to the rise of civilization and empires, in both the Old and New Worlds. Breadth-Social Sciences.

COURSE DETAILS:

A broad survey of human cultural development from the late Palaeolithic/PalaeoIndian periods (ca 40,000 BP) to the rise of civilization and empires, in both the Old and New Worlds. Breadth-Social Sciences.

This course explores the fascinating development of human societies from our earliest ancestors to the rise of civilizations. We will debunk popular ‘mysteries’ of the past by studying cultures from across the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Along the way we will cover topics such as fossilized humans, what the earliest tools and artworks looked like, the development of the world’s earliest writing, and how ancient monuments like the Pyramids of Egypt were built.
