CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

A writing course to improve precision, organization and style when writing academically or creatively in French. Students with credit for FREN 301 may not take this course for further credit. Writing.

COURSE DETAILS:

La société actuelle est confrontée à des enjeux qui concernent les défis provoqués par les changements technologiques, tels que l’avènement de l’intelligence artificielle et la désinformation qu’elle peut occasionner, par le bouleversement des conditions de vie qui pousse de nombreuses personnes à éprouver de grandes difficultés à se loger et par une crise environnementale et climatique aux conséquences de plus en plus inévitables.

Dans ce cours, vous discuterez de manière critique des articles et des productions médiatiques qui tentent de saisir les problèmes auxquels notre société fait de plus en plus face. Vous apprendrez également à rédiger des textes convaincants afin d’avoir une influence sur la scène politique.

Les enjeux étudiés seront articulés autour de trois grands thèmes :
1. Réseaux sociaux et intelligence artificielle
2. Accès à la propriété, crise du logement et itinérance
3. Environnement et crise climatique

COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:

Objectifs
Ce cours vise à développer des compétences en écriture argumentative afin de favoriser le développement d’une citoyenneté lucide, critique et engagée. Les étudiant·es se familiariseront donc avec certains défis culturels, sociaux et politiques contemporains, analyseront les points de vue qui en émergent, puis apprendront à appuyer leur argumentation sur des sources fiables et à exprimer efficacement une position critique à propos de ces sujets. Parallèlement, les étudiant·es auront l’occasion d’améliorer leur français écrit à travers des exercices d’écriture.
