Description
CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:
Acquaints the student with major issues in contemporary psychology and considers their historical antecedents. Topics in learning, cognition, social psychology and abnormal psychology are considered. Breadth-Social Sciences.
COURSE DETAILS:
In PSYC 102 we will take a biopsychosocial approach to examine topics such as personality, social psychology, the development of language, mental health and clinical disorders and treatments.
This course takes place over 2-days. There is a 2 hour lecture on Monday 10:30-12:20 in Images Theatre and a one hour online asynchronous component available by Wednesday.
Topics: Language, adolescence, personality, intelligence, social psychology, stress and health, mental health and clinical disorders and treatments.
COURSE-LEVEL EDUCATIONAL GOALS:
- Equip students with a background understanding of some of the major research findings on a broad range of topics in psychology.
- Introduce students to the expectations of university level writing via written exam answers.
- Perspective take via whole and small group discussions.
- Participate in ongoing research at SFU.
Grading
- Research Participation: 6%
- Participation Discussions: 10%
- 4 exams 2 chapters per exam: 84%

Lectures: Mondays 10:30am - 12:20pm + one hour ASYNCHRONOUS online by Wednesday - content TBA.

REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to the other course requirements listed on the syllabus, each student in Psychology 100, 102 & 201W is required to complete three hours of psychology research participation.
