The geographical character of Canada; the Canadian environment; regional differences in socio-economic growth. Breadth-Social Sciences.
COURSE DETAILS:
This course offers a broad introduction to the geography of Canada, examining the physical environments, regions, and socio-economic patterns that shape the country. Students will explore the diversity of Canada's landscapes and natural resources alongside the historical and contemporary forces driving uneven regional development, from urban centres to resource-dependent and rural communities. The course also incorporates critical approaches to understanding Canada, including Indigenous perspectives on land, territory, and self-determination, and the ways colonial histories continue to shape relations today. Migration is examined as a further lens on Canadian geography, considering how patterns of immigration and settlement have influenced the country's cities, regions, and social fabric over time.
