Description

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:

An in-depth study of the design methods fundamental to periodicals in print and in digital media. Students evaluate, and engage in the design and repurposing of publications, exploring current practices of content delivery online and through mobile devices. Emphasis is placed on innovative methods and design practices for screen-based publishing.

In this course you will envision a publication and develop it both conceptually and practically through industry case studies and individual design projects. You will learn how to design an effective print and digital periodical—its brand, editorial, marketing collateral, and advertising—to gain reach and generate cross-platform traffic. You will learn the principles of both audience development and art direction, and how to effectively design and package periodical content for print and online. Students are expected to already have an intermediate level of skill in Adobe InDesign and good knowledge of Photoshop.
