Paleo-ice sheet hydrology
Structure, operation and evolution of meltwater drainage systems of past ice sheets Meltwater drainage and ice dynamics are linked, thus knowledge of ice sheet plumbing systems is essential to constrain or evaluate numerical ice sheet models. Much of our research to date has focused on the plumbing systems of the MIS 2 Laurentide and Cordilleran ice sheets. A selection of our more recent work in this area has focused on the following topics: 1) The record of R-channel drainage contained in Laurentide eskers [Sjogren et al. 2007; Brennand 2000; Brennand and Shaw 1996; Brennand 1994] 2) Laurentide and Cordilleran tunnel channel and valley character and evolution [Lesemann and Brennand 2009; Brennand et al. 2006; Russell et al. 2003; Brennand et al., 2003; Brennand and Shaw 1994] 3) The sedimentary record of a Cordilleran ice sheet linked-cavity system [Lesemann and Brennand submitted; Lesemann and Brennand 2003] 4) Evidence for, and evolution of, subglacial lakes under the Cordilleran ice sheet [Lesemann and Brennand 2009; Lesemann and Brennand 2007]
