Abdulai breaks Canadian Record
SFU long-jumper Ruky Abdulai broke her own personal best, and a 12-year old Canadian record to competed in the 2008 Olympic Games, where she finished 25th.

SFU football back on track
A 25-game, three-season losing streak took a turn for the better in 2008 with a season-opening victory over the UBC Thunderbirds. More followed, including a Shrum Bowl victory over UBC.

Women’s wrestling champions again
The Clan women’s wrestling team claimed the CIS National Championship in 2008, with Miranda Dick earning the title of CIS Wrestler of the Year. Clan coach Mike Jones was named CIS Coach of the Year for the fifth time.

Muntzenberger and Sui named swimmers of the year
The SFU Clan swimming and diving team returned to prominence at the 2008 NAIA National Championships. Niels Muntzenberger and Vicky Sui won multiple gold medals. Sui also helped SFU to a second-place finish.

Clan football coach makes an impression
Clan football coach David Johnson ended SFU’s three-year winless drought in 2008, propelling the Clan back into the national scene and the playoffs. He was named 2008 Canada West Football Coach of the Year.
