AIDS Network Nation’s First
Health sciences professor Robert Hogg was chosen to head up Canada’s first nation-wide HIV/AIDS antiretroviral research network to study the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy for HIV/AIDS treatment.

Put down the salt shaker
New research from health sciences professor Michel Joffres revealed that reducing Canadians’ daily salt intake by about half would eliminate hypertension in one million Canadians and save $430 million in related health costs.

Probing childhood asthma, allergies
Health Sciences professors Tim Takaro and Ryan Allen became involved in a $12 million Canadian Healthy Infant Longitudinal Development (CHILD) Study. B.C.’s real homeless count
Health Sciences researchers released a comprehensive new report in 2008 indicating the number of homeless people in B.C. is far greater than previous government figures suggest.
