Breast cancer screening reaction
The BC Cancer Agency has issued a response to a taskforce’s recommendation that breast cancer screening for at average-risk women aged 40 to 49 be scaled back. The agency says it is conducting its own review of B.C. screening policy and adds: “The BCCA will consider these national recommendations in our review process before making any recommendations to update B.C.’s screening policy. In the meantime, we want to let women and primary health care providers know that the current screening policy is unchanged.” SFU health scientist Michel Joffres, a member of the 14-member Canadian Task Force that released proposed changes to existing guidelines, says he is happy to see B.C. is at least reviewing the task force’s recommendations.”
