AAAS delegates tour Downtown Eastside
A group of delegates attending this week’s Vancouver-hosted American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) conference is getting a first-hand look at the city’s Downtown Eastside this morning during a walking tour co-led by Simon Fraser University criminologist Neil Boyd. The pre-conference tour, including several international journalists and a group of science students from England, by Boyd and Portland Hotel Society program coordinator Russell Maynard included stops at INSITE, a safe injection facility, a new social housing complex and SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts. Boyd has carried out extensive research related to drugs, INSITE and the Downtown Eastside and can provide further comment on his research and the tour.
