Bank of Canada, surgery abroad
Bank of Canada future
Geoff Mann, director of the Centre for Global Political Economy at SFU, is available for comment on two economic issues: The departure next June of Mark Carney to the Bank of England. And the OECD’s warning that Canada may have to increase interest rates at just about the time Carney’s successor takes over.

Healing motivation of surgery abroad
Canadian patients who seek medical attention abroad for hip and knee surgeries as a result of osteoarthritis are more motivated to remain physically active than their counterparts getting treatment in Canada. A group of researchers led by Valorie Crooks, an SFU associate professor of geography, isn’t sure why that is the finding in a new study. The journal BMC Services Research has just published the study. Crooks can talk about it and the need for more studies assessing how medical tourists’ attitudes affects their surgical outcomes.
