Jane’s Walks

On May 5 and 6, people all across North America will take part in Jane’s Walks— free neighbourhood walking tours that help put people in touch with their environment and with each other. The walks are inspired by and in memory of Jane Jacobs, an activist known for her work in sustainable infrastructure.

Gordon Price, director of SFU’s City Program, is attending one this year and is available to comment.

“What Jane did was observe and understand how streets actually worked and how people actually lived, and then explained it so clearly and persuasively that she transformed a generation. The walks don't so much carry on her tradition, but are built to observe and to share the experience. If it helps us to build a better, more sustainable city, all the better.”
