Low wages for women

SFU political science professor Marjorie Griffin Cohen would like the provincial government to re-evaluate the impact of its public policies on women’s earnings in light of her study. In a newly authored report for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, Cohen finds B.C.’s low minimum wage policy has resulted in women here earning less money than the national average. Cohen can explain why she believes B.C.’s low wage policies are hurting low-income earners, especially women. She can also talk about why she’d like to see this report lead to a discussion of B.C.’s employment standards legislation.
