City focuses on cleaner environment
A trio of SFU experts will join a City of Surrey panel discussion on urban and environmental sustainability on Thursday, Feb. 2 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. at Enver Creek secondary school (14505 84th Ave). The discussion, on such issues as transportation, housing and waste, will help the city as it develops a new community energy and emissions plan (CEEP). From SFU: Gordon Price, director of The City Program, Nimal Rajapaske, dean of applied sciences and SFU’s representative on the mayor’s Clean Energy Advisory Network, and public policy professor Nancy Olewiler, chair of Translink’s board. Penny Priddy, former MP and social issues advocate, will join the trio. Surrey has committed to reducing community greenhouse gas emissions by 33 per cent per capita by 2020.
