Could ex-MP become next Federal Court judge?

Federal Public Safety Minister Vic Toews resigned yesterday in advance of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s expected cabinet reshuffle this summer. SFU political science professor Patrick Smith suspects the vacancies in Federal Court are one of the reasons for Toews’ resignation. “If Toews is looking for a public life after being in cabinet, that would be something for him to do,” he says. Smith also predicts we could see younger MPs promoted to cabinet positions in the reshuffle to rejuvenate the Tories.
