Shiprider program to allow seamless border patrol
The Shiprider Program announced last year is gearing up for full implementation this summer on the Detroit River. SFU border security expert Joshua Labove says Shiprider moves the border by bringing U.S. and Canadian law enforcement together, but the legal uncertainty of maritime borders is directly challenged. “What’s interesting is that the program continues ongoing work to take border enforcement away from the border and it affirms that border work of all kinds - security and customs - will be more seamless as a joint, bilateral project than it has been before,” he says.
