Engineered at SFU
Students weighing the opportunities of entrepreneurship will learn from some key players from companies commercializing technology developed at SFU. Engineered at SFU, an event being held at SFU’s Surrey campus on Thursday, July 18 from 5-7 p.m. will offer up the thoughts and experiences of Doug Wiggin of Switch Materials, a developer of next generation commercial windows using SFU nanotechnology, Max Donelan, the SFU faculty member who formed Bionic Power using his research on human-powered energy generation, and moderator Ali Abdul Hussein of MobiSafe Systems, a client of SFU Venture Connection’s incubator program. MobiSafe is developing integrated wheelchair safety devices based on proprietary FoamBag technology developed at SFU. In partnership with Coast Capital Savings, Venture Connection has supported more than 3,000 young entrepreneurs who have participated since 2009 in VC programs. Alumni of its business incubator include MetroLyrics (acquired by CBS in 2011), LayerBoom (acquired by Joyent in 2010), HiretheWorld, Buyatab and V7 Entertainment.
