Study tracks major quakes in the Pacific region

A new B.C. study tracking the cycle of earthquakes off the Pacific coast shows there have been 22 major earthquakes over the last 11,000 years and that the region is due for another significant shake – although the time period for when it hits may stretch several hundred years. SFU earthquake expert John Clague, a professor of earth sciences, can talk about the factors that may precipitating such events, and shed light on typical seismic activity in the region.

Study finds Canada increasingly safe haven for cybercrime

A new study by San Diego-based Websense, a web security company, says Canada is increasingly becoming a safe-haven for cybercrime, and ranks it third in the world for countries cyber-criminals choose to set up advanced malware sites. SFU criminology PhD student Richard Frank is a member of SFU’s International Centre for Cybercrime Research and studies hacking and security issues.
