Islam being linked to terrorism, says expert
A British soldier was murdered in broad daylight in the UK yesterday. Officials are calling it an act of terrorism but SFU security expert Joshua Labove isn’t ready to make that connection yet. In this case, he says it is more likely the term ‘Islamic’ is being conflated with terrorism as a kind of instinctual reflex. “Terrorism isn’t simply about murder or criminality broadly,” Labove says. “Terrorism produces a kind of panic in the way it victimizes public space. Beyond ideology, terrorism promotes panic.”
