Grads gear up for Spring Convocation June 12-15

Nearly 4,600 Simon Fraser University students are eligible to graduate this spring and attend one of seven Convocation ceremonies during the week of June 12-15.

The first will be held, June 12 at 2:30 p.m. After that, ceremonies will begin at 9:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day. They’ll recognize students from all eight faculties:

June 12, 2:30 p.m. Beedie School of Business

June 13, 9:45 a.m. Faculty of Environment, Faculty of Science
June 13, 2:30 p.m. Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

June 14, 9:45 a.m. Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

June 14, 2:30 p.m. Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

June 15, 9:45 a.m. Faculty of Applied Sciences; Faculty Communication, Arts and Technology
June 15, 2:30 p.m. Faculty of Education; Faculty of Health Sciences

Meanwhile, six distinguished individuals will be recognized with honorary degrees, to be conferred at the start of the following ceremonies:

Tuesday, June 12 at 2:30 p.m.: Jack Uppal, B.C. South Asian community leader and businessman reputed for his support for new immigrants;

Wednesday, June 13, 9:45 a.m.: Saida Rasul, dentist and former member of SFU’s board of governors, renowned for her community advocacy;

Wednesday, June 13, 2:30 p.m.: Louise Mandell, Vancouver lawyer, known for her influence and conceptual thinking in the area of Aboriginal and treaty rights law;

Thursday, June 14, 9:45 a.m.: Harry Arthurs, York University president emeritus, professor emeritus and former Osgoode Hall Law School dean;

Thursday, June 14, 2:30 p.m.: Yosef Wosk, Vancouver philanthropist, scholar, community leader and founder of SFU’s Philosophers’ Café;

Friday, June 15, 2:30 p.m.: Glenda Gray, a South African pediatrician acclaimed for her pioneering work preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission.

I'm not impressed with the new enforcement SFU has come up with--restricted parking permits to 2 per each graduate. I think it is really unfair for the graduates this spring and very frustrating and inconvenient.
