Revered for its originality, award-winning acting, and unparalleled set design, Robert Lepage’s Far Side of the Moon will finally be available to Vancouver audiences this fall.
This is the second time the celebrated Quebecois conceptualist and playwright has utilized the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts as a venue, in 2010 Lepage’s Blue Dragon delighted audiences during a nearly sold-out run.
An epic one-man show, Far Side of the Moon stars accomplished actor Yves Jacques. Playing the role of Phillippe, Jacques won Montreal's Theatre du Nouveau Monde's Best Actor Award in 2003 and the Prix des abonnés du Théâtre du Trident in 2011.
Far Side of the Moon tells Phillippe’s story, a man coping with the death of his mother and loss of personal meaning. Set during the Space Race, the competition between the Soviet Union and the United States during the Cold War, Phillippe is aided by mysterious teachings from the heavens while on his own quest to find his place within the universe.
“This is arguably one of Robert Lepage’s defining works,” says Michael Boucher, artistic director of SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs.
“Here his renowned innovative theatrical strokes are so richly and thematically entwined within a powerfully emotional narrative.”
Far Side of the Moon is a presentation of the SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs, in partnership with Théâtre La Seizième.
