Having received the Governor General’s Award for Drama as well as rave reviews for story and acting, Daniel MacIvor’s ‘A Beautiful View’ is now poised to dazzle audiences for three nights at SFU’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts September 26-29.
Part of the SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs Fall 2012 Main Stage Season, A Beautiful View is one of five pieces published in MacIvor’s 2006 Governor General award-winning collection ‘I Still Love You.’
Produced by Vancouver’s Ruby Slippers Theatre, A Beautiful View stars award winning actors Diane Brown and Colleen Wheeler in a seriocomic trek across the intangibles of love. The story follows two women who meet while shopping for tents; their chance meeting informs their life choices for the next two decades, culminating in a quiet note of tragicomedy.
“I wrote the play as a response to how we have become so comfortable with labeling ourselves and our relationships, even when those labels are restricting,“ says MacIvor.
“The star of the play really is the friendship between the two women, and that means that beyond everything else, it’s all about what the actors bring to the play.”
A Beautiful View will be staged for three performances, showing nightly from September 26-29, at 8pm at the Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre. More information and tickets are available online.
