For the sixth consecutive year, Simon Fraser University is on Mediacorp Canada’s list of Canada’s Top 100 Employers (2013).

Mediacorp, Canada’s largest publisher of employment guides and periodicals, received more than 2,700 entries for a coveted spot on its 13th annual ranking of employers.

SFU made the cut for the following reasons:

  • The university champions work-life balance for employees through a variety of flexible work arrangements, including telecommuting, shortened and compressed work week options, 35-hour work week with full pay and a formal earned days-off program.
  • The university starts new employees at three weeks of paid vacation allowance in addition to paid time off during the holiday season. Some employee groups start with four weeks paid vacation.

Mediacorp uses eight key factors to assess which employers will make its top 100 list. They include: physical workplace; work and social atmosphere; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.

The 2013 winners of the national competition appear in the October 10 editorial supplement of The Globe and Mail newspaper. The results are also published on the job search website Eulta.ca.

Simon Fraser University is Canada's top-ranked comprehensive university and one of the top 50 universities in the world under 50 years old. With campuses in Vancouver, Burnaby and Surrey, B.C., SFU engages actively with the community in its research and teaching, delivers almost 150 programs to more than 30,000 students, and has more than 120,000 alumni in 130 countries.
