A local children’s theatre group is reaping the benefits of a handful of Simon Fraser University students who are literally LEADing the way.

The students, who are participants in SFU’s Certificate in Innovative Leadership (LEAD) have helped set up the Heart & Soul Valentine’s Benefit, which takes place on Sunday, Feb. 12, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. to raise funds for Port Moody’s non-profit Theatrix Youtheatre Society.

Jenni Rempel, a third-year student at SFU Surrey’s School for Interactive Arts and Technology, joined the theatre group when she was 12 and wanted to help the organization.

A graduate of the LEAD program, she returned to participate as a senior leader and organize a project to help set up the fundraiser. “I’ve been lucky to be a part of Theatrix and this is a way to give back,” says Rempel.

SFU’s Certificate in Innovative Leadership is available to students from any faculty and provides an opportunity to explore and practice their leadership development

The benefit will feature live theatrical and musical performances and will include an art show and auction of works by SFU. Tickets are $35 and available at www.theatrixyoutheatre.com.
