Campus Community Shuttle Update • Sep 6 & Aug 8, 2019

There are now two Shuttle stop changes: the stop in the Residence Main Lot has been moved from near the Dining Hall to the middle of the parking lot (in anticipation of future construction), and as of Monday Sept 9, 2019 there is a new stop located in the Residence West parking lot.

In April 2019, SFU’s Parking & Sustainable Mobility Services launched a Campus Community Shuttle Pilot Project on its Burnaby campus which was implemented to offset a reduction in bus service due to road closures related to the Corix Burnaby Mountain District Energy Utility Project; the road closures are coming to an end and transit routing is to return to normal on August 31st.

The shuttle, running every 30 minutes from 8 am until 10 pm, was swiftly adopted by students, staff, faculty, and UniverCity residents - experiencing ridership of up to 700 people per day. The Shuttle stops at three locations around Burnaby campus - Discovery 1, on High Street in UniverCity, and at the Dining Hall near student residences.

Since its implementation, we have received a great deal of positive feedback regarding the Campus Community Shuttle pilot project. Among this feedback has been requests to extend service beyond August 31st, 2019.

As a response to feedback, and in collaboration with Fraser International College, we will be extending the current Campus Community Shuttle pilot project for one more year until the end of August, 2020.

In addition to the extension of the shuttle pilot, we will be reviewing other feedback regarding the service in terms of accessibility, feasibility and sustainability as well as the campus’ long-term needs.

We appreciate your feedback and continued input on this project.
