2015 Federal Election Coverage

April 25, 2024

It's been a long (78 days!) and bitter fight for 24 Sussex Drive and as Canadians head to the polls, I shared a few of my thoughts on this marathon of a election that spanned four long weekends with several media outlets.

Anna Maria Tremonti on CBC Radio One's The Current and Vancouver's News 1130 wondered how a Blue Jays playoff game--in Toronto--might effect the outcome. It's all in good fun, I think, as Canadians have been voting early in record numbers and seem to have a good grasp on the issues well in advance of the final hours of the campaigns.

In British Columbia, voters wondered if this was their year to make a real impact in the outcome; with the race so tight in so many places, could BC matter more than ever? I told The Province I was thrilled to see such high numbers of early voting, but it would be anyone's best guess who those votes went for and what that means for an outcome. And on Global BC 1I suggested that BC embodies many national issues--from affordable housing, to resource development, education, and healthcare. BC is a complex society and single-issue politics don't play well out West. If nothing else, BC makes stronger candidates because they come to Vancouver, Victoria, Prince George, and throughout and are forced to be savvy and ready on a broad spectrum of policy platforms.

The Current: 10/19
