Jefferson A collection of Twins and Brills at the Jefferson garage, 14th Avenue and E. Jefferson St. Phot by Robert Kelly, Philadelphia, PA. Date unknown, but it must be between 1950, roughly, and 1963 when the system was slashed and all the Brills were retired. The original paint scheme (see pictures of Brill 798 elsewhere in the Seattle photos) had been completely replaced with the yellow and gray scheme by about 1950.

707 Brill 707 at Jefferson Garage just ahead of Brill 756 which is to the right of and behind Brill 723. The destination sign "MAIN ST" is a bit odd since neither the 6 nor the 16, which were interlined, never terminated at Main Street. They terminated at Union St. between 2nd AVe and 3rd Ave. before they were through routed with both branches of route 12 (E. Cherry, and 26th Avenue S.). Photo by Robert Kelly, Philadelphia, PA. Date unknown.

979 Pullman-Standard 919 sitting between Brill 786 and Twincoach 681 at Atlantic Garage. Both the 5 and the 9 terminated at Main St. and were house at Atlantic. Photo by Robert Kelly, Philadelphia, PA. Date unknown.

979 Twincoach 963, a 'yellow canarie,' resting at Atlantic Garage. The yellow canaries were distinct by the standee windows and were longer than the other series of Twin Coaches. The yellow canaries were normally housed at Jefferson Garage. It is not evident why 963 is at Atlantic. Photo by Robert Kelly, Philadelphia, PA. Date unknown.

919 TwinCoach 919 at Atlantic Garage. 919 was not a yellow canarie. Photo by Robert Kelly, Philadelphia, PA. Date unknown.

919 Brill 794 at Atlantic Garage. The GM diesels were acquired around 1953; hence the photos can't be before 1953. Photo by Robert Kelly, Philadelphia, PA. Date unknown.

S-cb2 The counterbalance weight in the counterbalance tunnel. 1940. Photographer unknown. Courtesy of the Seattle Post Intelligencer. The counterbalance was kept functional for two years after streetcars were replaced with trolleybuses in 1940 in the event of snow which closes Queen Anne hill. After two years of mild winters, the counterbalance slot was paved over. The following winter there was a major snow storm in Seattle, but the counterbalance couldn't be used. The tunnel underneath Queen Anne Ave. still exists with the counterbalances. There is talk of making this a walking tour in connection with a proposed park on Q. Anne Ave.

The dual wire system was converted to a single wire system early and did not live to be used by trolleybuses. As it turned out, this route was converted to diseasel bus operation. Photographer and date unknown.
