Notes on Line C1

by Eric Tourniquet

The startup of a new line of trolley bus is a sufficiently rare event in France and even in Western Europe so that it is not missed.

Thus, for Thursday October 12, the new C1 line of the Lyons network has service entrance. It for the moment is limited to the section Part Dieu - International City. To term, it will go up in Caluire by the Rise of the Soldiers and will join the station of the subway To cook by the route of current line 41.

7 trolley buses Cristalis ETB 18 are assigned to this new line, numbers of park 2901 to 2907 (for the specialists, job numbers in order VNE PU09C1 00000 088 to 094). They are parked with the deposit of Alsace.

Ten more vehicles already delivered 2908 to 2917 (job numbers following the previous vehicles) will be brought into service in February on the section Laurent Bonnevay - Vaulx Grapinnière of the line C3 (current line 51). It will be thus the second extension of the network of trolley bus. The third extension currently programmed should intervene in 2009 with the startup of the C1 line in its entirety and the C2 line connecting Part Dieu to Rillieux (currently line 59). 19 Cristalis ETB 18 trolleys, 2918 to 2936, will be brought into service at this occasion.

Soon, the next outstanding event on the Lyons network is set for December 6 with the startup of the line of tram T3.

In August, line 1 received an additional vehicle, Cristalis ETB 18 1927 job number VNE PU09C1 00000 087.

Last-minute news: Friday, Cristalis 18 of the deposit of Alsace caught fire suddenly in the deposit. The driver had just turned off the engine to fill the tank. The damage is considerable on the vehicle (probably irremediable according to my advisor) and also on the roof of this part of the deposit which partly broke down. Fortunately, there were no casualties and no other vehicle was touched.

Yours sincerely Eric Tourniquet
