Porsche -- Hub Motors

Submitted by Ashley Bruce

BTW Dr. Ferdinand Porsche (later of the cars) designed hub motors for the Cedes-Stoll trolleybuses first tried at Johannisthal in Austria in 1902, sponsored by AEG, using 15hp motors. The design entered service at a number of towns in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Britain and South Africa between 1907 and 1914. Some ran, in Britain at least, with virtually no maintenance until the mid twenties on very poor roads. (Cedes-Stoll was declared an 'enemy' company in Britain, and so not allowed to provide parts).
