Newsflash

The Route 36 etb extension will be done in two phases:

* Phase 1 extends existing trolley trips that now terminate at Dawson St. south to Myrtle St. Diesels will continue to be interspersed with the
trolleys (at 30 min intervals) to provide service south of Myrtle. This
extension will require only two additional trolleys, which are available
from the normal spare allotment. Construction should begin next year. (see below)

* When LRT is completed through Rainier Valley in 2006, Route 36 will be extended again from Beacon & Myrtle east via Myrtle St and Othello St to Rainier Avenue, where it will join the existing Route 7 wire and continue to the Prentice St terminal. This involves about a mile of new wire, and would permit 100 percent trolley operation on Route 36. Obviously this extension is more speculative- a lot could happen between now and 2006.

The construction contract has been awarded for route 36. Construction should begin in August and be complete in time for the June schedule change in 2001.
