The Trottier Observatory and Science Courtyard will be a new focal point for campus and community life, not only at night when the observatory is open, but also during the day, with "star tables" and other places to hang out, and with a wide variety of landscape elements to represent our scientific understanding of the cosmos. The site is just east of the Academic Quadrangle (pictured in the background), and is directly south of Strand Hall. When completed, the site will look very much like the concept drawing shown here.
SFU also officially opened the Trottier Studio for Innovative Science Education on the Burnaby campus on January 9 2014. Both projects are established through the vision and financial support of the Trottier Foundation, headed by Lorne and Louise Trottier, and spearheaded by Professor Howard Trottier, founder of SFU's Starry Nights Program.
