SFU Physics Announces a Full Day of 50th Anniversary Events on September 17, 2015

Physics was one of the founding disciplines when Simon Fraser University began operations in 1965, and we are excited to be celebrating 50 years of Physics at SFU!

To celebrate, SFU Physics has scheduled a full day of events on Thursday, September 17th. Alumni, Professors Emeriti, former staff members and other friends of the department are invited to join our current department members for the following events:

2:30 PM Physics Research Lab Tours
Meet at Physics General Office (P8429) J-27 We will be touring Physics research labs in the Shrum Science Centre and 4D Labs. Please register for research lab tours by clicking here.
4:00 PM Physics Faculty Research Presentations (a.k.a. Research Jamboree)
Room C9000 J-25 We've been running this event for a number of years to familiarize new graduate students with the range of research activities in the department. Each faculty member has two minutes to present an overview of their research group.
5:00 PM Pre-dinner Social
Diamond Alumni Centre D-24 Please join us before dinner and after the research presentations to connect with past and present members of SFU Physics. There will be a cash bar and complimentary coffee, tea and appetizers.
6:30 PM Barbecue Dinner and Student Award Presentations

Join us for a barbecue dinner, student awards presentation and speakers while enjoying the view at the Diamond Alumni Centre.

Trottier Obervatory Tour (Weather Permitting) Trottier Observatory I-29 After nightfall, join Howard Trottier for a tour and a view from the new observatory.


Event Parking

  • Dinner Parking
  • There are twelve first-come-first-serve parking spots in front of the Diamond Alumni Centre, including several spots for vehicles with disability parking permits. Additional pay parking is available in ā€˜Cā€™ Lot (D-28 on the campus/accessibility maps).
  • Afternoon Event Parking
  • The closest parking to the 'P' and 'C' buildings in the Shrum Science Centre is in 'B' Lot (K-32 on the campus/accessibility maps).
